Shadow Stations of the Cross - A Great CCD Activity for Lent

Shadow Stations of the Cross
Catechist Magazine, Feb., 2000
I stumbled upon this article in Catechist Magazine back in 2000 and thought it was a GREAT idea!  About 11 years ago I was teaching 8th Grade CCD and decided to give this "Shadow Stations of the Cross" idea a chance.  The 8th graders selected various parts, practiced, dug up some props, found some music to accompany the performance, and then put it on for the other CCD kids.  It was a hit!  Everyone really enjoyed it and it was a perfect CCD activity for the Lenten Season.

1st Station - Jesus is Condemned to Death

2nd Station - Jesus Takes up His Cross

3rd Station - Jesus Falls the First Time

4th Station - Jesus Meets His Sorrowful Mother

5th Station - Simon of Cyrene Helps Carry the Cross

6th Station - Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus

7th Station - Jesus Falls a Second Time

8th Station - Jesus Meets the Holy Women of Jerusalem

9th Station - Jesus Falls a Third Time

10th Station - Jesus is Stripped of His Garments

11th Station - Jesus is Nailed to the Cross

12th Station - Jesus Dies on the Cross

13th Station - Jesus' Body is Taken Down from the Cross

14th Station - Jesus' Body is Placed in a Tomb

These 8th graders did a GREAT job doing the Shadow Stations of the Cross.
I think they had all 14 stations memorized by the time we were done with the project!
This was some years ago ... maybe spring of 2004,
so these 8th graders are now all grown up.
