October 2 - Feast of The Guardian Angels

Guardian Angel
by Berhard Plockhorst (1825-1907)

The much-loved prayer, Angel of God, is believed to have been composed by an 11th century English monk named Reginald of Canterbury.

 Angel of God,
my guardian dear,
To whom his love commits me here;
Ever this (day, night) be at my side,
To light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen.

In Latin …
Angele Dei,
qui custos es mei,
Me tibi commissum pietate superna;
(Hodie, Hac nocte) illumina, custodi, rege, et guberna.
Amen.

Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life.
